Most couples we know start with friendship before becoming couples. Does the same apply for interracial couples?
We all need human company and half the time our aim is to cultivate and build true friendships in order to communicate better. After all, no man is an island. Looking at our multiracial environment today, people meet other people of different races. When it comes to romantic encounters, is it wiser to leave all this to fate, since love comes in many forms these days?
It’s very sad to see an interracial couple being forced to go separate ways because of the pressure that is exerted on them by the the people around them. If you are in an interracial relationship, I am sure you have heard people say "You should stick to your own kind." Some have even dubbed you a “sell-out.”
The above statements are very selfish and limit people’s dating potential and preferences. Clearly, there are many interracial couples that found love successfully. I mean if everyone decided to listen to that noise, would we have been able to have such a multicultural world? Would celebrity model Heidi Klum be with her true love (Seal) and be as happy as she is today?
Love is precious and valuable. So why should interracial couples endure so much extra pressure in order to experience true love? Being with someone of your own race doesn’t guarantee you happiness. Like with any coupling, it is the personality that matters most, the respect and love you share that matters most.
This is not to say that true love can only be found when you date interracially. Some interracial couples endure the same problems that a same race couple would. Racism aside, interracial couples should stay strong and create a brand new world for themselves.
So don’t limit your dating potential just because someone told you to. Don’t let true love pass you by just because society thinks of you as a sell-out. Go forth and create your interracial world. Dig deeper within yourself and trust me, you will be a happier person when love surrounds you.
Who said there is something wrong with interracial dating? What's really important is that you are able to focus your energy on someone whom you love dearly, no matter their race.
